Hand-carved from a solid piece of indigenous wood, this incredible vintage stool made by Lobi people from Burkina faso . The Jola people have been mainly rice cultivators and harvesters for several centuries.The Lobi belong to an ethnic group that originated in what is today Ghana.

Lobi woodcarvers do not crave for making money and it has a ritual practice view of the art. Wood carvers see making craving as needing to have a purpose. These leads from the idea that wood carving viewed as a dangerous act and need to have a ritual to protect against hostile spirits that can be angered during the cutting of the trees.

This stool features beautiful patterned carving details with signs of age and use.

Since this piece was hand carved, it has different variations and signs of wear which makes it one-of-a-kind piece for your space.
